  • Edward De Bono Six Thinking Hats

Extraordinary people are just ordinary people that think differently. By using the proven methods of effective thinking, that ordinary person that thinks differently could be you and your organization with Dr Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats.

The Six Thinking Hats tool is a simple, effective parallel thinking process that helps people break away from habitual thinking styles towards a more productive, focused, and mindfully involved decision making process.

Participants will learn to figure out how to separate the thinking process into six clear roles. Each role is symbolized by a different colored "thinking hat". By rationally exchanging these imaginary "hats," one can easily redirect or refocus thoughts, conversation or the meeting.

  • Objectives

    Improve productive collaboration

    Minimize meeting or team conflicts

    Holistic view of any situations

    Generate better ideas and solutions

    Evaluate situations thoroughly

    Identify hidden opportunities

    Create dynamic productive meetings

    Reduce undesirable behavior

    Provide different perspectives

    Stimulate innovative ideas

    Objective and clear thinking

    Eliminate egos and turf mentality

  • The Blue Hat pays attention to focus, thinking agenda, summaries and decisions.

Planning and controlling thinking processes to maximize utilization of intelligence potential. The importance to focus, use thinking sequences and proper observation of Six Hats principles.

The White Hat calls for information known or needed. Information mining is done systematically and more productively.

It serves as basis for other types of thinking - evaluative, intuitive, creative and judgmental.

The Yellow Hat emphasizes on feasibility and accounts for critical success factors.

It seeks to identify benefits, values and potential framework for practical, logical thinking aimed at assessing benefits, feasibility, potential and value.

The Black Hat indicates judgment - the devil's advocate or why something may not work.

It emphasizes the importance of caution in creative thinking and identifies potential threats and errors of judgment. It also overcomes negativity as a stumbling block to good thinking.

The Red Hat validates the important role of feelings, hunches, and intuition. It is not perceived as mere subjectivity.

It accords intuitive thinking its proper place in decision making. Validating an intuition, as a factor in decision making process.

The Green Hat focuses on creativity: the possibilities, alternatives, and new ideas, Lateral Thinking. The emphasis is on aptitude- the know-how.

Creative, generative thinking using Lateral Thinking Techniques to generate fresh solutions, ideas and explanations.

I have enjoyed the 2-day Six Thinking Hats course conducted by Gene. He has designed the course and instructed it in a way that was able to hold my interest for the whole 2-day duration; and from my observation, I believe most of the course participants felt the same! I find the course interesting because of his ability to make good use of game, anecdotes and short stories to explain key terms and concepts. Many a time, the anecdotes and short stories were related to his own experiences; as a result, I find them more interesting and convincing. Also, the humor and jokes that he has injected throughout the course made the course lively!

I believe the concepts and techniques shared are very useful not only at work, but also in my personal life. They give me a different perspective of how to organize my thinking differently in order to achieve more desirable results when dealing with issues, especially complex ones.

All in all, I find that Six Thinking Hats is a very enjoyable and useful course. A big kudos to Gene for teaching it in a manner that brings it to life! I’ll definitely recommend it to my colleagues and I look forward to attend other interesting courses conducted by Mindtrac. Cheers!
